Blooming Spring Love Story at Greek white chapel in Crete Lauren & Caroline

At the very beginning of Cretan spring, picturesque Markakis Estate became the setting for an intimate elopement – where the last whispers of winter met the season’s first blossoms.
The landscape at the end of March was like a fairytale, with silver olive groves swaying beneath the soft wind, moody skies dissolving into warm Mediterranean light and nature awakening in the most delicate way. Two ladies from Washington D.C. were searching for more than a destination wedding. They longed for intimacy, stillness and a place with a spiritual aura-somewhere their love story could unfold authentically, far from the ordinary.
The ceremony took place in front of the family chapel, Agios Nikolaos, hidden on the edge of a cliff overlooking endless olive groves. Entirely private and untouched, the moment felt magical. Only the birds witnessed their happiness, carrying whispered vows into the Cretan breeze.
To complement the place’s organic beauty, the decoration embraced a vibrant yet refined palette of orange, coral and soft pink. Fresh-cut oranges adorned the welcome table, adding warmth while an orange blossom-flavored cake filled the air with spring notes. Every detail felt intentional and effortless, with a celebration of love fitting perfectly with the raw beauty of Crete.
A soulful escape where elegance, nature, and emotion existed in perfect harmony.
